Windermere Morning - Winner of the Olympus Global Photo Contest 2017 by Richard Walker
Via Flickr:
Some of you may notice that this shot actually appears in my photostream already. I shared it back in January 2015 when I took it. I am sharing it again to celebrate the fact that it has just won the Olympus Global Photo Contest 2017, and to give a little bit of hope to those who have got out of bed on too many cold wet mornings only to be disappointed when conditions don’t improve.
This shot very nearly didn’t happen. I was staying at a hotel right on the edge of Lake Windermere in the UK Lake District and had set my alarm for just before sunrise. When I woke I could hear rain tapping on the window and I was very tempted to just stay in bed. Luckily after a few minutes I told myself that is not the attitude of a landscape photographer and dragged myself out of bed and down to the lakeside where I was greeted by the scene in the photo.
You’ll never get the shot if you don’t get out and shoot!
Although I share all my photography here on Flickr it’s not the best place for sharing other stuff such as reviews, blog posts, etc. If you want to see more from me, including upcoming blog posts about this shot, please hop on to Facebook and give my page a like at www.facebook.com/dkiphotography.
Please give me a follow on here too if you like my photography.

“Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.” - Groucho Marx
